eBay UK fees explained for private and business sellers

The fees you pay on eBay UK depend on one thing above all: whether you sell as a private seller or as a business. The two are very different, so check which you are before you work out a price. These figures were checked in November 2026. eBay changes its fees now and then, so use our calculator for the latest.
Private sellers
If you sell your own things now and again, you pay no final value fee on most items sold to a buyer in the UK. A £50 pair of trainers sold in the UK costs you £0 in fees, and you keep the £50.
There are two things to watch for:
- Selling abroad. A private seller pays an international fee of 3% of the total (item plus postage). Sell a £50 item with £3 postage to a buyer outside the UK and the fee is £1.59.
- Vehicles. Cars, motorbikes and other vehicles have their own fees. See our vehicle fees page.
Business sellers
Business sellers pay a final value fee that depends on the category, charged on the item price plus postage. It is a percentage: for example 11.9% in Trainers (7% if the item sells for £100 or more), 10.9% in Antiques and 9.9% in Books, Comics & Magazines. Every category has its own page on our category fees list.
On top of that, business sellers pay:
- A per-order fee of 30p on orders up to £10 and 40p above. We explain why this matters on cheap items.
- A regulatory operating fee of 0.35% of the total.
- An international fee when the buyer is abroad: 1.05% for the Eurozone and Northern Europe, 1.8% for the US and Canada, and 2% elsewhere. It does not apply if you use eBay International Shipping.
- Extra percentage points if your service metrics are poor, for example 6 points when you are Below Standard.
If you are not VAT registered, VAT at 20% is added to all of these fees. If you are VAT registered, you reclaim it, so you can leave it out.
A worked example
You sell a pair of trainers for £60 and charge £4 postage, as a business that is not VAT registered:
| Fee | Amount (including VAT) |
|---|---|
| Final value fee (11.9% of £64) | £9.14 |
| Per-order fee | £0.48 |
| Regulatory operating fee | £0.27 |
| Total fees | £9.89 |
You are left with £54.11 before the cost of the item and the postage. To see yours, enter your own numbers into the calculator.
